Veise SmartLock: FirstLook
Better a decade later?
We installed a biometric lock a long time ago, before smart locks became widely available. After using one for a long time, we now know what features to look for in the next one. The challenge is finding a lock with all of them. Fortunately, Veise and we had the same thoughts!
Things we learned:
- Installation should not require a larger hole to be made;
- Fingerprint readers are not convenient for winter use;
- Adding and deleting fingerprints should be quick and intuitive; and
- Multiple ways of unlocking are better than just one method.
Veise SmartLock
It has been almost a decade since the NextBolt, and most lock manufacturers now have a version of a smart lock on the market. Some are part of a home automation system, others are standalone, and some will even offer them as part of a security/monitoring service.
We looked at a lot of smart locks, and the one that ticked all of our boxes was the Veise SmartLock. It has the following features:
- Remote control
- No hub needed
- Multiple unlocking options
- Auto-lock
The VE027-H SmartLock is a premium, all-in-one keyless entry system. The “H” suffix denotes that it comes bundled as a complete matching handleset, combining a built-in Wi-Fi deadbolt with a solid aluminum lower door grip and latch.
The unit comes with built-in 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, which can connect directly to our router. We do not need to buy or plug in an external G2 gateway hub to check the lock status or manage codes when away from home.
While most standard smart locks are powered by four AA batteries, the VE027-H holds 8 AA batteries. This enables a more stable Wi-Fi connection and extends overall battery life up to 8 months.
The smart lock can be controlled via the KK Home App, a 0.2-second biometric fingerprint scanner, customizable PIN codes, IC key cards/fobs, voice control, physical keys, remote app authorization, or quick custom sharing codes.

We are excited by all the progress smart locks have made over the years, and we are going to take a closer look firsthand in this writeup. We will install this lock in the Fall, use it over the winter, and report back on how it performed in our FirstUse post.
FirstLook
The package came with everything needed to install the lock. Not just the obvious parts (keypad, deadbolt, etc.), but all the accessories such as strike plates, screws, and other bits.

The Veise VE027-H package includes fold-out paper installation templates. These templates are designed to tape directly onto the door so there is no guessing where to drill or measure.
KeyPad
Keypad Surface: Features a hardened touchscreen panel with an anti-peep overlay to prevent fingerprint smudges or visible wear on heavily used numbers.
Biometric Sensor: Uses a scratch-resistant semiconductor capacitive glass sensor that provides a 0.2-second biometric read.
Exterior Front Plate: Constructed from a heavy-duty aluminum alloy to protect the internal wiring and provide structural rigidity against forced entry.
Weather Seals: Employs silicone/rubber weather-stripping gaskets behind the plates, achieving an IP65 dust and water-resistance rating to withstand rain and extreme temperatures (-31°F to 150°F).
Interior Rear Plate: Made from high-strength composite plastic. This is intentionally used on the indoor side to house the 8-AA battery bay and to allow the built-in 2.4GHz Wi-Fi antenna to broadcast clear wireless signals without metal interference.
Deadbolt & Latch Components: Constructed of hardened steel to meet its BHMA/ANSI Grade 3 residential security certification and prevent drilling or sawing.
Handlesets
The VE017-H full vertical handlesets are designed to give a premium, heavy-duty appearance to the door. All handle options are fully reversible, meaning the levers and grips can be oriented to fit both left-handed and right-handed swing doors right out of the box.
Lower Handle & Grip: Machined from solid zinc alloy, providing a heavier, premium metallic feel when gripping the lower door handle.
Exterior: Features a long, solid zinc-alloy vertical pull grip with a thumb-latch actuator at the top.
Because the Veise VE027-H is an all-in-one handle and deadbolt set, the package comes with two separate latch assemblies: the top deadbolt latch and the bottom handle latch
FirstThoughts
After taking a close look at the VE207-H smart lock, we are impressed with how much Veise has managed to pack into it. Clearly, a lot of thought and effort have been put into its design, the feature set, and the quality of the materials used to make this smart lock.
We are eager to get on with the installation and see if the same attention has been paid to the ease of installation and use. We have a feeling we will not be disappointed.
