Onoayo LED Mini Projector: FirstLook

100", 1080p, and less than 5lbs!!!

It’s been a long time since we took a look at projection technology. One reason is that prices of large-screen TVs have been dropping like a rock. Projectors, with their lower contrast and brightness, have not been able to compete with TVs under the 100″ mark.

However, with the improvements in LED lamps and laser technology, projectors are now becoming popular for those looking for a 100″ and larger screen experience.

With the World Cup approaching, we thought it would be a good time to take a look at projectors and see if they are worth getting for watching the games.

Unboxing

After a bit of research, our RainyDayIntern was able to find a good deal on an LED projector in the sub-$100 category that looked promising. The projector is made by Onoayo, a company we are not familiar with, but it looked promising.

What’s in the box?

The Projector

The projector measures approximately 5″x7″x3″ and weighs less than five pounds! It is amazingly small and can be taken anywhere. The USB, HDMI, 3.5 mm audio, and power ports are in the back. The 1/4″ screw hole at the bottom of the unit is for connecting to the included stand or a standard tripod.

Features:

  • 1000 ANSI & 1080P FHD
  • Auto Keystone & Electric Focus
  • Bluetooth 5.2, WiFi 6, speakers

To keep everything lightweight, the projector and stand are made of plastic. Don’t let that fool you, the fit and finish of the projector is surprisingly good. We like the rounded corners, and there are no sharp edges.

The Stand

The stand can be used by itself or attached to a tripod. The screw hole on the bottom of the projector is metal, a nice touch for durability. Also, we noted a little detail on the stand that makes aligning the two holes quick and simple. It’s a nice touch.

The screw to attach the projector to the stand is also metal and is designed to screw in without the need for tools. There are also rubber feet on the bottom of the projector to keep it from sliding around when used off the stand.

The projector is well-balanced on the stand, and the angle is easy to adjust. Many projectors in this price range have a fixed angle. The stand makes this unit so much more versatile, as it can be used to project onto a wall or ceiling.

FirstThoughts

This surprisingly small projector is a good choice for those looking for a sub-$100 projector. It is small, light, and very portable. The multiple input ports make it easy to connect to a computer or some other video source.

How long will this projector last? Who knows, but we can buy ten of these for the price of the last one we looked at back in 2007. BTW, they provide a three-year warranty, so the risk is almost zero 🙂

Anyone looking for a budget projector need look no further than the Onoayo LED Mini Projector
