No Name car cover: 2021-2026
It did last for five years!!!
Our twenty-six-year-old Boxster has never seen the inside of a garage. The paint on the car, even after all this time, is still in great shape because we cover the car when it is in the driveway. Over the years, we have covered the car with outdoor covers from a lot of companies. Eventually, they all succumbed to the relentless beating from the Sun, the weather, and age.
Lasted five years (2021-2026)
2021
The car’s current cover was purchased from a local Boxster owner on Facebook Marketplace because he had sold his car.
The cover was brand new and designed for use outside, but had no branding on it, so we have no idea who made it.
Unlike our previous covers, this one was not as form-fitting, but draped over the side mirrors instead of covering them in custom pockets.
2021-2024
The first couple of years using it were great. The cover went on/off the car without any issues, was waterproof, and snow slid off easily. The lack of a tighter fit wasn’t a problem, as the straps kept it on the car when it was windy. We didn’t notice any issues with the paint as the underside of the cover was lined.
2025
Things started to go a little bit downhill after being outside for four years. We noticed that water was seeping in under the cover, and would sometimes freeze onto the car. Once, when there was an ice storm, the cover froze in such a way that it came off the car as a frozen shell!!
2026
The cover really started to show its age this summer. While no longer waterproof, the cover was still protecting the car from the sun…for the time being, anyway.
From a distance, the cover looks OK, but get up close, and the sun damage is obvious. Five years of daily UV exposure have taken its toll. The cover is not likely to survive another winter.
FinalThoughts
Five years of constant UV exposure is not nothing. Still, this cover is the only one we have had that has broken down in the way seen here. However, since we only paid $50 for it, we think we go our money’s worth 🙂
