Meal kit for "Eating Well."

Cooking at home is fun, saves money, and an excellent way to eat healthy. However, there are a few “downsides” to it as well. We may have to go to more than one store for what is needed, buy more than what we need to make the dish, and make sure we have to time to do what is required by the recipe.

What if there is a better option? What if there is a meal kit service which will delivery fresh groceries, in just amount needed, for tested recipes, designed to fit specific eating goals? How much would that be worth?

Pecan-crusted Pork Chops

Our FirstTaste of the Green Chef entree was the Pecan-crusted Pork Chops. The recipe and direction were printed on a high-quality water-proof sheet. On the front is a description of the ingredients, prep time, and various other info (nutritional, utensils. etc)

A much, much tastier version of putting the lime in the coconut, plus no doctor has to be called up..

The exact amount of ingredients for each meal has been pre-measured—no waste! You do need to have your own pans and utensils, though 😉

All the packaging materials are recyclable.

I am going to eat every single thing in this photo—although probably not all at one sitting (it’s aLOT).

The vegetables were already portioned out so all we had to do was to cut things up according to the directions, in the order prescribed, and flavored for cooking.

Mis en place, people, mis en place.

The overall cooking time was listed as 30 minutes, and eleven of them were allotted to sauteing the various vegetables. This estimate was spot on.

The first into the pan were the squash and peppers, followed by the chopped onions, and finally the collard greens.

Too bad Smell-O-Vision never caught on…

With the vegetables cooked, next up was the pork chops. A few minutes on the pan to sear them on each side and they were ready for the topping (Creole Dijonnaise w/ avocado mayo and chopped pecans). Five to seven minutes in the oven, and everything was set for plating.

THIS was smeared (in a good way) on THOSE, THEY went into THAT, and bingo-bango-bongo, dinner was ready.

The directions recommended giving the pork chops a 3 minute rest before slicing.

Any way you slice it…you know the rest.

FirstTaste Thoughts

  1. The recipe was easy to follow;
  2. The timing and steps were correctly estimated and sequenced;
  3. The spices and sauces were flavorful;
  4. The dish came out looking very close to the photo.

The GOW (Glass Of Wine) you have to supply yourself.
