Snailax Knee Massager: FirstLook/FirstUse

Heat, vibrations, and LASERS!!!

Knees are tricky things. They are critical to us humans being able to move. But use them too much, and they wear out. Don’t use them enough, and they tighten up. As we get older, we “feel” the wear and tear in our knees a lot of the time. However, if we sit too much and become less active, we can hurt ourselves when we do want to move. And regardless of whether we move or not, our bodies tend to take longer to heal if/when we hurt our knees.

To help our injuries recover faster, we have tried a lot of different things (foam roller, massage gun, etc) and we are always on the lookout for effective remedies. When a few RainyDaySports readers pointed us to the Snailax Knee Massager, we knew we had to check it out!

Why yes, it IS a “helmet” – for your knees!

FirstLook

A nifty little gadget indeed.

We didn’t take the massager apart to check, but we know the removable lithium battery is under the hard shell and thus replaceable when it no longer holds a charge. Someday we’ll do just that…when we need to change out the battery 🙂

Not sure why “Snail” is in the name…

FirstUse

One of us on the RainyDay team has a certain amount of wonkiness in one knee, from developing PVNS a number of years ago. The wonky knee just isn’t as “good” as the other knee (but wow is she beyond grateful that she had an excellent orthopedic doctor/surgeon who knew what the problem was and took care of it), and sometimes, it just feels…delicate.

So when this, uh, snail-y, knee-based Star Wars Stormtrooper helmet-y looking, um, device, showed up in the office, we knew who was going to put it through its paces.

You can dial it to 11 (if you want)

The Snailax helps knees get, how you say, back on their feet, by using heat and vibration. You can have one on or have both on, and each mode has multiple settings. The Snailax auto shuts off after about 10 minutes, but you can turn it on again without delay.

The heat can get nicely warm, and the vibration effect is a surprisingly pleasant. The design of the device keeps the heat and the vibration on the knee, and if you’ve ever had a KI (Knee Incident) you will appreciate the focus.

The high heat level is 131℉ and low heat level is 113℉ . That might sound “too hot” but we have not felt that to be the case, neither over clothing nor against bare skin.

This might have been in a Star Trek episode, but we’re glad it’s in the Snailax.

Making your own “cocktail” of knee relief

When using Snailax, the control panel is on the thigh and easy to read/adjust.

Heat and vibration controls for your knee, all within arms reach, and easy to figure out.

The smallest of quibbles

Overall the RainyDay crew really liked the Snailax. Pretty much the only two quibbles any of us had was that:

  1. the straps were so overly long that the last nine inches of the straps just, um, dangled, in the air, and
  2. the velcro “hook” section just barely met up with the velcro “loop” section (to secure the Snailax on/around the knee),

but these in no way detract from what the Snailax offers in terms of comfort and (temporary) relief for painful knees.
