Reolink Argus MagiCam: FirstLook
Put it anywhere you want...really!!!
When Wi-Fi security cameras became inexpensive, they became a great solution for DIY remote home monitoring.
Remote home monitoring allows the homeowner to check in on things (pets, elderly parents, etc.) while away. For remote access to work, the cameras must be connected to Wi-Fi in some fashion (hub, on camera, etc.) Because Wi-Fi capabilities typically require a good bit of power, most camera solutions are wired.
Reolink now offers Wi-Fi-enabled security cameras that are free from the constraints of power outlets. This means the cameras can be placed anywhere.
What is even more amazing is that these Reolink cameras didn’t just make remote monitoring, real-time video streaming, and live interactions simple to set up; they do so at prices that anyone can afford!

Camera
The 2MP Argus MagiCam supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi:
- The 2.4GHz band offers better wall penetration, longer range, and more reliable coverage.
- The 5GHz band offers faster speeds for smoother live views. Its IP67 weatherproof housing means the camera can be used indoors and outdoors.
Features:

- Dual-Band 2.4/5GHz Wi-Fi

With the Reolink app, live feed and recordings can be viewed at any time, from anywhere. The built-in mic and speaker allow real-time communication. When the Argus MagiCam is connected to a DC power supply (outlet, solar panel, etc.), it supports 24/7 continuous recording.
Power
The replaceable AA batteries make it easy and fast to swap power whenever necessary. This ensures continuous monitoring without downtime.
The camera is built using the Qualcomm® Micro-Power Wi-Fi solution, enabling up to 9 months of operation with just two AA lithium batteries. That is just amazing!
While the Argus MagiCam is compatible with cloud storage, more security-conscious users are opting for local storage solutions. The Argus MagiCam’s internal storage can support a microSD card up to 256GB for local storage.
Mount
The magnetic back plate on the camera means that it will attach directly to any steel surface. The kit includes a mounting pad, offering the flexibility to install the camera on almost any smooth surface (glass, painted walls, etc.)
For more flexibility, a rotary bracket is included in the kit. This enables the camera to be mounted and adjusted 360° horizontally and 180° vertically, allowing for a wide range of coverage options…and yes, mounting screws are included.
FirstThoughts
The first thing everyone noticed is that the Argus MagiCam is small. It is palm-sized, making it highly portable, and can be placed practically anywhere. The flat box design makes it inconspicuous and unobtrusive.
The magnetic back means it will stick to many metal surfaces. It can be plopped on a fridge in the kitchen, a metal filing cabinet in the office, or even the leg of a metal plant stand at the top of the stairs!
Low-power Wi-Fi means it will run for a long time on a set of AA batteries. Waterproof housing lets this camera be used outdoors…how cool is that?
We think these little security cameras are going to change the game for DIY home security setup. We think it may even introduce a new category we are calling “personal video security.” You heard it here first 🙂
