Pamu Slide 2 Ear Buds: FirstLook

ANC, smaller but more powerful...so go stick it in your ear!

Ear buds have come a long way since Apple came out with the AirPods in lat 2016. Each generation has gotten progressively better: more advanced features, longer battery life, and better sound.

Along with all that amazing tech was the steady climb in AirPod prices. This means there is a window for innovative companies to offer something better, cheaper, or both!

Pamu Slide 2

The Harda Group, based out of Xiamen China, founded Padmate to focus on high-quality audio consumer electronics. In 2019, Padmate released the Slide to mixed reviews: Some liked the fit, battery life, and value; others thought the sound, size of the charging case, and quality control could have been better. Bluetooth connectivity was also reported to be erratic.

Fast-forward to today. The Pamu Slide 2 has just been released. We got our hands on a set and are excited to see if they have addressed the issues with the previous version and how they stack up against Apple’s AirPods!

Features:

  • Active Noise Cancellation
  • Bluetooth 5.2
  • Wireless and USB-C charging
  • Smaller size

FirstLook

The Pamu Slide 2 package (case + ear buds) is larger than the AirPod but has the same solid-quality feel. The cover slides back with a smooth action and snaps close with just a flick.

The design of the ear buds are different than the AirPod in that they don’t hang from the ear, but fit into the them, forming a more secure fit and providing better external sound isolation.

The package:

  • Case and ear buds
  • USB-C cable
  • Soft cushions of various sizes
  • storage bag and printed instructions

Charging

USB-C charging cable was supplied with the unit, but not the AC adapter. This is not a problem—and actually it’s a good thing as we have WAY too many USB-AC plugs around the office already. There is absolutely no reason to further waste resources including something no one really needs, because they already have it, and in spades.

While wired charging is still with us, wireless charging is absolutely the way to go. The Pamu Slide 2 worked great with our iPhone wireless charger. Just plop it on the pad and you’re in business! This is how easy, simple, and convenient charging should always be.

Once charged up, we’ll try the Slide 2 with a few different devices (iPhone, Macbook Pro, etc) to see how it performs.

We’ll have the FirstUse write-up later in the month.
