Klättermusen Mithril Kevlar Jacket FirstLook
When we hear “Kevlar” we immediately think “bullet-proof vest.” So when we heard that a kevlar jacket had arrived at the RainyDayMagazine office, we thought “Cool! Which intern should we shoot?” Fortunately for the interns the jacket is not for that kind of protection.
Klättermusen is a Swedish company that designs and manufactures outdoor clothing and equipment for outdoor enthusiasts. Their products are often unique, definitely not the “same old same old.” The company is not just unique in its approach to product design, it also put its money where its mouth is when it comes to environmental ethics. One percent of their sales is allocated for environmental projects. As a result, Klättermusen has received sixteen international design awards in the last 5 years. The company was founded by Peter Askulv in 1984. Folks in the U.S. may not be familiar with Klättermusen but we are happy to help change that 🙂
Kevlar, besides being known for its use in bullet-proof vests, is often used in making jackets to protect motorcyclists. It is well-suited for the task because of its extreme wear-resistant characteristics. In fact, some think a jacket made with Kevlar may just last forever! The designers at Klättermusen thought it would be fun to design a jacket with this high-tech fabric. They sourced some sample material and made a few Kevlar jackets for themselves. The Kevlar jacket is a modified version of their regular Mithril jacket. When the jacket left the lab and word got around, everyone wanted one! So Klättermusen is making them in small batches for those who appreciate this jacket’s unique combination of attitude, style, and tech.
The jacket is cut to fit snugly, is suitable for all types of outdoor activities, and can handle low to medium wind. The Kevlar Mithril has the following features:
- Kevlar®-reinforced softshell with superior stretch and durability.
- Microfleece neck lining.
- High collar.
- Angled zip with internal storm flap.
- Two zipped pockets.
- Sleeve extends over top of hand for extra comfort and protection.
- Elastic sleeve end.
- Elastic and adjustable lower hem.
- Soft brushed inside.
- Extended back.
