Dec 18,2013- RainyDayGiftGuide: Garage... |
A lot of people have garages to store their car. Some even have enough space that they can work on their vehicles while protected from the New England weather. However, many city dwellers are not so fortunate. Most have to park on the street, and a few lucky ones can park in a private driveway. Those with such parking conditions have to choose their automotive tools with a bit more selectivity. The tools have to be portable, rugged, and if possible multi-purpose. It is with these criteria in mind that we put together the 2013 RainyDayGarage Holiday Gift Guide.
Many of the items we have on this year's list are from Clore Automotive. Their gear has restarted our cars, filled our tires, and brought our dead batteries back to life. In all the years that we have used these products, they have never failed us. So this Holiday Season, we wanted to give Clore a special shout-out and highlight some of the items which we've found to be particularly... [more]- RainyDayGiftGuide: Garage

Dec 17,2013- RainyDayGiftGuide: Home & Garden... |
Home and garden gifts are the easiest to select. There is so much to choose from that we like to recommend a good place to shop in addition to offering a list of items. Those looking for a good source should head over to Gardener's Supply Company and look around.
Gardener's Supply Company has expanded their offerings from their inital gardeny things to now include inside-the-home stuff. Many items are exclusive to them, orders are processed quickly, and they ship fast. For the Holidays, orders made before Dec. 19 noon EST will be delivered before Dec. 25! Those looking for specific recommendations, read on :-)

Dec 14,2013- RainyDayGiftGuide: Kitchen Gear... |
Yesterday we posted a collection of gadget gift suggestions for the kitchen. Today we continue the kitchen-based list with some gear. Some of the items made the list because we have found them to be excellent tools for those who love to cook. Others got the nod because they are innovative, have great design, and promise to make cooking more enjoyable. Either way, we are excited about the choices and are sure that you will find them so as well.
Induction cooking technology is amazing. Induction cooking uses magnetic fields to cause the cooking vessel to heat up, as opposed to using heat transfer from electrical coils or burning gas as with a traditional cooking stove. It is more efficient, much safer than electric coils and gas, and is... [more]- RainyDayGiftGuide: Kitchen Gear

Dec 13,2013- RainyDayGiftGuide:Kitchen Gadgets... |
We love gadgets for the kitchen. Not only are they fun to use, but after "playing" with them, we usually end up with something tasty to eat or drink! How great is that? When putting together a Holiday Gift Guide, we always end up with so many recommendations that it takes two issues to present them all. This year is no different. Today's issue focuses on smaller kitchen gadgets and stocking stuffers. Tomorrow's will be on the bigger items. We hope you will find them as enjoyable to peruse as we did in putting them together!
For espresso lovers who also love gadgets:

December 11,2013- RainyDayGiftGuide:iGadgets... |
The iPhone and iPad devices have taken the world by storm since their introduction. While they are still hot items for the Holidays, the gadgets which support, extend, and enhance those devices' capabilities make great gifts as well. Today, we have put together a collection of such iGadgets which we would love to get as gifts. We think those lucky enough to be on your iGiftList will feel the same!
iGadgets for those who like to watch the world, record what is going on, or share what they are doing:
OK, the BlackVue Sport SC500 actually is not an iGadget. It is an action-cam. It is new and might be a bit difficult to find in the US, but we decided to slip it in anyway... just in case you have... [more]- RainyDayGiftGuide: iGadgets

December 9,2013- RainyDayGiftGuide:Tripods... |
There are a number of tripods on the market that we would love to hav. However, if we had to choose based on the type of photography we do most often, one or two tripods could satisfy most of our needs. For our DSLR and videcams, we want a full-size tripod that is: rock solid in construction, flexible in configuration, and light in weight. With that in mind, we put together a list of tripods for this year's RainyDayGiftGuide for those with the same wants:
The Vanguard Monopod and Trek-Tech TrekPod are perfect for those who need sturdy mobile support. The Vanguard ABEO CM-284 is made from carbon fiber, is super stiff, weighs less than a pound, can expand to about five feet, and support up to 17lbs. The TrekPod is heavier (27oz), but can... December 4,2013- RainyDayGiftGuide:Photo... |
Earlier this week we posted our 2013 RainyDayGifeGuide recommendations for Photo Bags. Today are going to share some suggestions for photo accessories. As many readers know, we have been a little enamored with the Fujifilm X100S point-n-shoot camera this year. So it should be no surprised that many of our accessory selections lean toward gear for the X100S :-)
The X100S is well-designed for hand-held shooting, but sometimes one needs to set the camera on a support to get the desired shot. When we went looking for a suitable tripod to pair with the Fujifilm X100S, we had two criteria: stability and flexibility. After some effort, we narrowed the offerings down to the following three selections:
We like the Life-Phorm from Lethal Protection because it will work with smartphone, point-n-shoot, or DSLR camera. This alien-looking support is as unconventional as they come. The six-legged configuration of the... [more]- RainyDayGiftGuide: Photo Accessories

December 2,2013- RainyDayGiftGuide:Photo... |
Our work requires us to have a camera with us day in and day out, so we know a little bit about what makes for a good camera bag. A photo bag must protect the camera, have room to carry accessories, and be built to stand up to the wear and tear of the road. Unfortunately, photo bags can also attract unwanted attention and be a target for thieves. So when selecting suggestions for this year's Photo Bag RainyDayGiftGuide, we gave a lot of thought to units which don't look quite like traditional camera bags but still have all of the features a serious amateur or a pro photographer would want/need. After some consideration, a few rounds of discussion, and a lot of paring, we decided on the following nine bags for this year's list.
VANGUARD is a global manufacturer of tripods, camera bags and cases, shooting sticks, cases, binoculars and spotting scopes with first-of-its-kind features and capabilities. They have grown from a small operation in 1986 to a name trusted by professional photographers and outdoor enthusiasts worldwide today. Vanguard is new to us, but we were more than...
