RainyDaySports: OOFOS FirstLook
Incredible comfort and amazing support!!!
Walking around—technically called bi-pedaling—is hard on the feet, often resulting in pain and fatigue. Great orthotics like UpStep can help, and the results can be amazing, but they need to be paired with shoes or sneaker to provide the benefit. What if you want to wear sandals? Are there any options? Yes there are/is, and they are called OOFOS!
OOFOS
“…every single OOFOS style carries the American Podiatric Medical Association Seal of Acceptance…”
The above claim caught our attention and got us interested in the OOFOS line of footwear. While OOFOS offer a wide selection of footwear, we were most interested in checking out their sandals.
We got two pairs of OOFOS’s original Sports Sandals and they arrived packaged in 100% biodegradable bags…a nice nod to the direction the company leans in their corporate ethics.
SOOFOS Original Sports Sandals specs:
- Patented footbed that cradles and supports arches;
- OOFoam is a proprietary, non-toxic closed cell foam which:
- Absorbs 37% more shock than traditional footwear foam; and
- Reduces energy exertion in the ankles by up to 47%;
- Are painted with non-toxic paints; and
- Do not contain latex.
The entire sandal appears to be formed as a single unit, unlike flip flops or sport sandals. This means that are no straps, buckles, and/or potentially irritating bits to rub against the skin. Nice!
The slightly upward curve at the front gives a bit of protection to the toes and should help lessen stray road bits getting between the foot and the Oofos. There is a small ridge for the toes and a grid pattern for the foot that provides both a bit more grip on the sandal.
The channels on the bottom lets water easily escape and thus prevents slipping, which sometimes is an issue with flip-flops. The design and construction of these sandals looked very well-thought out and executed.
On first wear, the fit was great and EXTREMELY comfortable. The entire foot was well cushioned by the dense material, but there was still a feel for the ground. The arch support was just right, the thong between the toes were perfectly placed, and did not irritate at all.
We’ll have more comments on how these new Oofos performed after we have had a chance wear them for a bit. Look for the update at the end of Fall.
