DRNXMYTH : FirstTaste
Twist, mix, drink...repeat :-)
When we first wrote about how easy it was to make Old Fashions at home using Proof Syrup and bourbon, a few RainyDayReaders reached out to let us know about these “on-the-go craft cocktails” from DRNXMYTH.
We know what you’re thinking: PRE-made mixed drinks? Pre-made MIXED drinks? We had the same reaction.
But wait. Hear us out.
DRNXMYTH
How would you make a great cocktail? You’d:
- Get a great recipe.
- start with fresh ingredients.
- Mix it when you are ready to drink it.
Well, that is exactly DRNXMYTH’s approach:
- Use fresh cold-pressed ingredients.
- Never heat an ingredient.
- Put it all in a patented Twist-to-Mix-when-youre-ready bottle.
BAM, fresh-make-it-when-you-want-it cocktails anytime, anywhere.
Label us intrigued. But while the elevator-pitch is great, can these guys deliver?
We got us a box of different cocktails—in the mail!—to find out.
If this is the label for some booze, I wonder what the label for a personal-sized fusion reactor is like?
The shipment arrived in a few days. On the side of the box was a very official label: “This package contains ALCOHOL…” with instructions on how to accept said alcoholic package for delivery.
The interns were quite amused, as FedEx just dropped the box off. No IDs checked, no signature given. OK, then.
Of course, the more important point is that the drinks were shipped in a well-insulated box, they all survived the trip, and they arrived cold. A good sign if ever there was one.
Kind of like a little nest—an ice-cold nest—for precious little things that don’t, uh, respirate. Coochie-coochie-coo!
While we didn’t get EVERY available flavor (they currently offer 21, we got 13), we got a good sampling of different alcohol types (vodka, bourbon, rye, etc.). We got cocktails we knew and cocktails we’ve never heard, so it was a good mix.
Enough for an entire Woman’s lacrosse team, plus an alternate!
FirstTaste
Our two FirstTastes of the DRNXMYTH cocktails were the Classic Margarita and Spiced Sangria.
Having made more than our share of pitchers of each back in the day (which might have been three weeks ago, we’re not saying), these were probably the two drinks we knew like the back of our hand, both in terms of how to make them and how we liked them to taste.
Fits securely in the palm and comfortably in the belly.
DRNXMYTH’s version of the Classic Margarita is made with:
- 100% agave blanco tequila
- Organic agave syrup
- Fresh lime juice
- In-house made orange liqueur
- Pre-diluted salt (in water)
CLASSIC margarita? From a BOTTLE? Yes indeedy.
We know the cocktail was made with fresh lime, but we could not resist adding a few slices of our own to the glass (we like the look). To serve, we did what the label said: twist, shake, and pour. It really was that simple!!!
“Shake shake shake/Shake shake shake/Shake your bottle, Shake your bottle…” They wrote that song about these, didn’t they?
FirstTaste verdict? Nice.
As advertised, the cocktails were very fresh, and cannot be beat on both ease and convenience. While not required, a few slices of fresh fruits absolutely enhances the flavor of both drinks (as they would with just-made-by-us versions).
ALWAYS better when consumed from the appropriate glassware (ignore the three weird sisters, they’re just jealous)
Group Tasting
We wanted a wider sampling of opinions on the DRNXMYTH cocktails, so we invited over a few folks with “cocktail experience” for a group tasting. This was not some highly controlled double-blind experiment, though, as that would have required a LOT more drinks than we had on hand!
Even so, we tried:
- Eastside
- Strawberry Mojito
- Apricot Rye Smash
- Peach Inferno
- Ginger Drop
- Maple Apple Toddy
- Tequila Sunrise
- Spiced Sangria
One, two, three, four…wait, what end did I start from?
We made sure that everyone:
- had a go at the twist-n-mix mechanism,
- got a taste of all the drinks, and
- gave their thoughts on these fresh on-demand cocktails.
Interestingly, not everyone was able to twist the bottom of the bottle as directed, and some bottles twisted easier than others. It was either that, or (possibly) they got harder to turn after the testers had had a few drinks.
We may have to repeat the test to determine the reason…
Some tasters were of a certain age that required reading glasses to make sure they, uh, knew what they were about to get into.

FinalThoughts
DRNXMYTH cocktails are absolutely perfect for picnics, beach outings, and the like when you want to drink/offer more than just beer. The variety, convenience, and taste are strong points for these extremely portable pre-made cocktails. The drawbacks are the amount of plastic consumables required for each drink, and a slight price premium for the aforementioned benefits.
On the road, DRNXMYTH wins hands down. When at home, we’ll probably stick with the DIY approach for simpler drinks, there are plenty of times when we wanted something fancier than we were able to procure/produce. Those are the perfect times to reach for a DRNXMYTH cocktail!
Our advice? Be adventurous and sample their Full Bar. You only have to do it once. Note the ones you like and stock up on a few of each. That’s much more cost effective (no need to stock multiple alcohols and fresh ingredients) and convenient (no need for recipes, ready in seconds).
Also, it’s kind of nice to know that whenever you want to serve a fancy cocktail, you can just pull one from the fridge, give it a twist/shake, and enjoy!!!
