Lots of people know that the Cape is a great place to visit in the Summer...which is why we usually avoid it until the off-season. We like the off-season for a lot of reasons, the main one being the peace and quiet. However, getting the weather to cooperate can be tricky after Labor Day. We visited Falmouth over a year ago, but that was just a quick day trip. We had always planned to return for a longer stay and we did just that this past weekend.
The Nor'easter had passed earlier in the week and the weekend weather was in the low 60s. Unusual for November, but we were not complaining. Especially since we had reservations at the Sea Crest Beach Hotel in Falmouth for Veteran's Day weekend. The Sea Crest was only about an hour from Boston and a little ways over the Bourne Bridge (that spans the Cape Cod Canal), but once crossed, we might as well have been a hundred miles from the city.
Located on gorgeous Old Silver Beach, the Sea Crest has just gone through a $15 million dollar renovation:
We had heard good things and wanted to see the results for ourselves. We were not disappointed. We liked the color scheme, the decor, and even the wall art. Everything just felt fresh and comfortable.
All the rooms come standard with flatscreen TV, mini-fridge, and free WiFi. There are a few different accommodation options: Standard, Ocean View, Ocean Front, Fireplace, Sundeck. If you are going to visiting the Cape for pleasure, you may as well ask for one with a water view. Our room was airy, spacious, and the west-facing balcony had a spectacular view of the ocean.
In the Summer, Old Silver Beach is probably the most popular beach in Falmouth. Some would claim that it is the most popular beach on Cape Cod. Folks come from all over to enjoy the pure white sand. Claiming a patch of it could be challenging during the height of the tourist season, but not so this time of the year.
We found ourselves sharing the entire beach with a few sea gulls and a couple watching the waves. Quiet and relaxing is exactly how we like it. It is also how we like to enjoy the sunset. Next time we will remember to book one with a gas fireplace!
While this was not our first time to Falmouth, it was our first weekend stay at the Sea Crest. We had an excellent experience and can recommend it without reservations. We will definitely be using the Sea Crest Beach Hotel as the base from which to launch more of our Cape adventures. Oh yeah, when you do go, try one of their Bloody Marys at Red's. Just trust us on this. [Permalink] - Sea Crest Beach Hotel, Falmouth MA
