ZanyLen Boris Sunglasses: FirstLook

Semi-rimless, Titanium, Magnetic Clip-on

We have reviewed quite a few different brands of sunglasses over the years (Oakleys, TruFocal, Raen, etc). It has been a while since a pair of sunglasses caught our interest, but these ZanyLen did. We’ll go into more detail on the “why,” but the main reason is their clip-on capabilities.

We never heard of ZanyLen, but after doing a little research, we discovered that:

  • The makers are based in Singapore,
  • They have their own glasses factory,
  • and they have close to 40 years of experience in manufacturing.

All of that means they can offer a lot of quality at a great price, which is one of the reasons why we decided to check out their offerings for you, RainyDayMagazine readers!

BORIS

There are a LOT of ZaneyLen frames to choose from, and after a lot of back-and-forthing, we finally settled on the Boris. We picked it because we liked the half-frame styling. We have some experience with clip-ons, and our complaint with them has always been the weight. The Boris’ half-frame, along with the titanium material, make them the lightest option available!

The Boris, like most of the other ZanyLen glasses, came with two pairs of clip-ons. The clip-ons are another reason why ZanyLen piqued our interest. They are held in place by tiny but super-strong magnets. This approach makes it easy to convert a single pair into two other types of glasses.

Semi-rimless Titanium

Whether they’re called half-frame, semi-rimless, or whatever strikes your fancy, the idea is to make the entire unit lighter, less obtrusive, yet sturdy enough to stay on the face. Titanium frames make that possible.

Titanium (Ti) is a lustrous, silver-colored transition metal (atomic number 22!) known for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, and biocompatibility, making it invaluable in aerospace, medicine, and high-tech industries. It is extracted from minerals like ilmenite and rutile and is also widely used in the form of titanium dioxide as a brilliant white pigment.

What’s in the box:

  • ZanyLen eyeglasses (titanium frame, 16g),
  • Polarized clip-ons (Yellow and Black),
  • Leather case,
  • Microfiber cloth,
  • Clip-on storage bag, and
  • Accessories (ear hooks, screwdriver, silicone nose pads).

Clip-ons

In addition to the clear lenses, the Boris comes with two super-thin clip-on lenses (yellow, black). They attach securely to the frame with the help of small magnets embedded in the inside corners of the frame. The magnets are not visible from the front

The clear lenses are blue-light blocking lenses. They can block 97% of the potentially harmful blue light (385nm-445nm) and pass through 100% of beneficial blue light (445nm-500nm). This helps reduce eye strain for the wearer, including eye fatigue, migraines, and headaches. Blocking blue light has been shown to improve sleep quality after prolonged screen usage or gaming.

Yellow lenses will filter out all blue light, which scatters more easily and creates visual “noise.” By blocking out all the blue, yellow lenses can make other colors appear more vibrant, which helps the details “pop.” The filter also helps reduce glare, offering clearer vision in hazy or overcast conditions…especially helpful when driving at dusk.

This enhanced contrast helps to enhance subtle changes in terrain, making everything appear sharper. Do note that, unlike the clear lenses, the yellow filter does change the overall colors in the scene.

The sunglasses clip-ons are polarized, dark, and super thin. When attached, it is actually thinner than most other sunglasses. The combo is also lighter than our other sunglasses!

One thing we wished was that both clip-ons had kept the half-frame style of the original. We are not sure why they didn’t. As the anchor points are at the upper part of the frame via the magnets, and the lower part of the clip-on is not attached to the clear lenses at all, we feel that ZanyLen should have kept the style.

Yes, the full-frame clip-on changes the look, but the look is still really nice 🙂

FirstThoughts

Titanium frames are renowned for their lightweight and strength. Titanium is also durable, ensuring longevity, allowing for sleek designs, and a modern aesthetic. ZanyLen did a great job in meeting all of those goals with the Boris. The Boris is REALLY lightweight, super comfortable, and the clip-ons are easy to attach and detach.

We’ll put the Boris sunglasses through a few seasons of testing and report back on how they held up to our expectations. Look for an update at the end of Spring 2026!
