QuietOn 3: InTheWild

Smaller, better, quieter...

Sleep: it’s important. So important that most human beings will literally go mad if they don’t get it.

A good night of solid sleep is often hard to come, but whatever is keeping people up at night, there are ways to address it. We have looked at some of them in the past (teas, tech, etc).

If external noise is a problem, ear plugs are a solution, and the best ones we have used to date are the ones from QuietOn. They have active noise cancellation, a 20-hour rechargeable battery life, and are incredibly comfortable to wear while sleeping.

ZZZZzzzzzzz…..

QuietOn 3

We have been using two different versions of the QuietOns for the past few years. We didn’t think it was possible to improve upon the QuietOn SLEEP, but the QuietOn3 actually managed to do so in all important aspects: case, size, noise cancellation.

So dreamy…

There is a noticeable improvement in the new case, both in materials and usability. The stainless steel plate adds a nice high-quality feel. There is now more LED information both at the front and back.

Switcheroo.

The QuietOn3 ear buds are smaller, have a softer foam tip, and are shaped to fit more comfortably in the ear. The buds automatically align when placed in the case and are held in place by magnets for charging. How cool is that?

NOT Martians – EARBUDs.

In Use

We live in the city, off a busy main road and near train tracks. We hear plenty of street conversations, traffic noises, and can even feel the rumblings of Amtrak and the local commuter trains when they pass by. You get used to the sounds, but that doesn’t mean we don’t hear them: we just don’t register them as something worth paying attention to. The ability to block some of it out with the QuietOn earbuds literally frees our brain from the interruptions.

Ah, peace.

Even though the QuietOn3s are only marginally smaller than the older version, the slight size reduction was immediately noticed, felt, and appreciated. The QuietOn3s were WAY more comfortable to wear for an extended period. Also, the new “quiet” of the QuietOn3s was qualitatively better.

No, Darth Vader and a Martian are not duking it out in our ear. We would’ve noticed.

The graphic below from QuietOn shows a comparison between the active cancellation of the QuietOn3s and foam ear plugs, and shows the quantitative difference between the two for noise reduction at the frequencies most important for “quiet.”

Final Thoughts

After using the QuietOn earplugs for the past few years, we have come to understand that “quiet” is not a nice-to-have, but something directly tied to restfulness of the mind, better health, and quality of life.

The QuietOn3 earplugs are not inexpensive, but we feel it is well worth the investment for anyone who values a quiet night’s sleep,
