RainyDayGiftGuide 2015: Wristwatches
Have fun shopping and Happy Holidays!!!
The Holiday Seasons is upon us, and once again readers have asked us for our gifts ideas.
Our selection criteria for all categories is the same every year: the items have to be things we have actually used or they have to be things we would actually want.
We know that many RainyDayMagazine readers are big fan of wristwatches, so for 2015, we thought we would pull together a gift guide of some of our favorites, which are:
- Apple Watch
- YES Cozmo and Zulu
- Tx 770 chronograph
- Timex Intelligent Quartz Fly-back Chronograph
- Timex E-Compass Titanium
- Casio EDIFICE EQWT-720
- Tudor submariner
- Apple Quartz
Smartwatch
It has been a while since Apple introduced a brand new device, so when they announced Apple Watch expectations were sky high. While there have been active discussions about the utility of this new gadget, after six months of living with it, we can definitely say its usefulness has grown on us.
- Apple Watch – Is it a “must-have” gadget? No. Is it a “great-to-have” gadget? Absolutely!
Have someone on your list who already own an Apple Watch? Give them an adapter so they can change things up with different bands.
Changing the Apple Watch band not enough? Consider encasing it in armor. The case will make the watch beefier, protect it from bumps and bruises, and definitely give it a whole new attitude.
Chronograph
- YES Cosmos and Zulu watches – These watches will tell times for sunrise and sunset, for moonrise and moonset, lunar phase and percent illumination, as well as analog, digital and military time for wherever you are on the planet.
- Tx 770 chronograph – Tx is Timex’s venture in to the luxury watch market (sapphire crystals, screw down crowns, textured dials, etc, 100m water resistance, etc). While the Tx line has been discontinued, these watches are fantastic. Those interested can still find them available at various retailers. Snag them before they all disappear!
For more current but not-quite-traditional Timex offerings, we would like to point our readers to the Intelligent Quartz and E-Compass series. They offer great technology and attractive styling in the tough-as-nails Timex tradition.
The Casio EDIFICE 700 series of chronographs has built-in radio-synchronized atomic timekeeping and solar-powered charging. These features provide the EDIFICE line of watches with non-stop, self-adjusting performance. They are about as maintenance-free as wristwatches can get.
Vintage
Two of our favorite vintage watches are the Tudor two-tone mini Submariner and the 1994 Apple Quartz. The stainless steel version of the Tudor is still available new, but the gold and stainless one can only be found on the used market. The Apple Quartz watch is a lot easier to find, but the prices are all over the place depending on condition.
Have fun shopping and Happy Holidays!!!
