DJI Neo: Flight Cases

Make or Buy???

When we got our DJI Neo FlyMore package, we were tempted to get the custom Lekufee form-fitted DJI FlyMore case, but realized that we had an empty camera case that would be PERFECT for the FlyMore FPV gear…$80 saved!!!

FlyMore Case

A while back, we purchased an aluminum camera case on Facebook Marketplace because it was only $20. We had purchased a larger one a few years ago and really liked it. We had no specific plans for this one other than that the deal was too good to pass up, LOL!

This aluminum case, like the other one, was top-loading, but smaller. The top section opens up to two side compartments with lids. The case turned out to be exactly right for all the Neo FlyMore gear…and more.

The case is built with starburst riveting and reinforced corners for strength. It also has auto-aligning lids, one-touch lockable latches, and braced hinges. The case is customizable using movable padded dividers, which is why this case is perfect.

The movable interior panels can be adjusted to create right-sized sections, or no sections at all, depending on what or how much needs to be transported.

Different Layouts

The DJI FlyMore combo came with a Neo quadcopter, goggles, two different controllers, extra batteries, and miscellaneous spare parts…which can be a lot to pack into a case, especially if we didn’t want various pieces banging into each other

How to best arrange various components depends on which pieces need to be carried, as not everything needs to be taken on every outing.

We tried a lot of different configurations, with and without partitions, and with consideration for ease of packing, access, and efficient use of available space.

Final Configuration

After a bit of experimenting, we settled on an arrangement that carried the Neo, extra batteries, and the FPV goggles in the main compartment. Everything else was stowed in the two top cubicles.

The arrangement looks logical in theory. We’ll have to see how the setup will work out in actual use.

Neo Case

There are, of course, custom-fitted cases available just for the DJI Neo, and we considered getting one. However, like the camera case, we found something lying around that was sized just right for the Neo, and a controller or some batteries. How cool is that?!?!

FinalThought

We like custom cases. We have a custom case with laser-cut foam specifically sized for our Questar telescope. The exact fit keeps the scope from moving or accidentally rubbing up against something during transport.

However, a custom-fit case will limit the number of packing options. The reconfigurable one, such as the one we already had in-house, can be a great solution. When we tried finding something similar on Amazon, what came the closest were cosmetic cases!

So, for DJI Neo pilots looking for a transport case for their quadcopter, we suggest first looking around to see if something available will work. If not, consider one that is configurable for better flexibility….maybe even one for transporting makeup 🙂
