Mott & Bow: Such comfort…HOW?

Maybe it was the super casual “wear-the-same-thing-to-work-as-you-wear-to-bed” philosophy during the pandemic, but donning on a piece of clothing that is not as comfortable as what we wore then is not an attractive proposition in the least.
We discovered Mott & Bow a while ago, and they are fast becoming our go-to brand for travel and “back-to-the-office” wear. Why? Comfort, style, and…more comfort 🙂
They feel as nice as they look like they do.
We love our Levi’s, but by the time they are worn in they are kind of worn out. So when we first heard about Mott & Bow, we were skeptical: “stretch and comfort right from the start” sounded like a marketing ploy. However, after our 10-day trip with a new pair of their jeans, we are converts.
The post of our experience with the new jeans received questions from readers about why we liked them so much. Instead of replying individually, we are choosing to do a more in-depth writeup on our thoughts about them.
Weave & Stretch
The “secret” to Mott & Bow’s more comfortable pants are due their attention to a lot of details, but the two main factors are “weave” and “stretch.”

Ninety percent of the denim market uses a “right-hand” weave for their products. Changing the direction of the weave & stretch can greatly affect the softness of the fabric and the degree to which they’ll conform to the body. Mott & Bow uses the less common weave on some of their styles that creates a soft pair of jean that holds its shape.
Some of the jeans have a horizontal and vertical stretch factor of 37%. Mott & Bow calls that “360º denim.” The ones we tried had a stretch factor of 20%, which were plenty comfortable for a 6-hour flight!
Details & Fit
A good fit offers comfort. Good details make for a great fit. Whether it’s jeans or chinos, Mott & Bow’s pants have great details:
- Pockets – for a smooth profile;
- Darts and notch – for a better fit.
It’s all in the details.
What else…
Know what else is soft? Cashmere. Know what else cashmere is? Comfortable. We’ll be checking out Mott & Bow’s 100% Grade A cashmere sweater and report back. If it is anything like the jeans, we have a pretty good idea of how it will fare 🙂
