Anson Belts : FirstLook

What? Your belts have holes???

Like many RainyDayMagazine readers, we have a lot of different belts. Some are traditional, some are low profile, and some we have even made ourselves. However, none of them are like the ones we recently received from Anson! How are Anson belts different? Read and find out…

This one, that one, and all the other ones.

Anson Belt & Buckle

Belts have been around for a long, long, time…as in “back to the Bronze Age” long.

The “modern” version, ie., a strap with holes and a buckle to keep it tight, appeared some time in the 1920s and has essentially stayed the same ever since, until now.

A goodie-box if ever there was one.

Anson Belt & Buckle is a father & son business that took an idea, perfected it, and quite possibly redefined an entire fashion category.

They have made the lowly belt: micro-adjustable, customizable, and adaptable to any occasion. Utility, comfort, and style…all in a box!

Box Set

Three belts, three buckles, nine different combinations. All of the components feel well made, and should last a good long time. In fact, should anything go amiss with either a belt or a buckle, they are covered by a no-fine-print lifetime warranty. We don’t know of any other belt company that does that!

Yes, at first glance we thought they were speakers, too.

Belt Details

The box came with three different belt straps:

  • Graphite canvas front, micro-fiber backed;
  • Invincibelt: polyester webbing with a TPU coating; and
  • Buffalo Leather: vegetable tanned premium full grain.

The website has 60 different belt options, from casual to dressy to formal. We’ll leave it as an exercise for the reader to check them out on their own 🙂

This one, that one, and a different this one.

The Anson tagline/bold goal is embossed right onto their products. Now that we’ve had a chance to take a closer look at the quality and the design of their products, we are starting to believe!

“Belt hole” is a thing. Not everybody knows this.

The Anson system can make a micro-adjustable quality belt out of any material, be it leather, cloth, or synthetic. This is obviously versatile, but it also means you don’t have to compromise form to get function. With a material like leather, the adjustable “slab” gets sewn into the sandwich of materials.

Like a tractor tire – for your belt!

If the belt material is moldable, the “catches” can be formed directly into the strap, which makes the strap thinner. We can imagine a lot of different interesting patterns, textures, etc. for the front side as well.

Is this a belt? A PEZ candy conveyor? Either thought is intriguing…

Sizing the belt

The belts will fit anyone who wears a size 50″ pant or less. Fitting is a simple “measure and cut” operation, doable with a pair of normal scissors.

When we “sized” the first belt, we were cautious. We didn’t want to cut it too small, and it took us three tries to get it to the “right” size. However, once we got it properly sized, we used that as the template for the other two straps, making sizing operation a one-cut-and-done task.

Wait, these AREN’T chocolate bars? These are BELTS? Still the thought intrigues…

Buckle Details

Anson buckles are solid and substantial. There are thirty-nine different colors/finishes/styles to choose from. Each use the same simple, secure mechanism for gripping and securing the strap.

These buckles are sear-ree-us about keeping your pants up. Or shorts, either one.

The release is a button on the side of the buckle. Accidental loosening is not possible due to the clever design of the catch.

You clever fellow – handsome, too!

To secure the strap to the buckle: insert the cut end into the channel and close the clasp. The clasp’s row of spikes sink into the material, holding the strap in place.

This belt-buckle doubles as an old-fashioned “crooner” microphone, perfect for those completely-sober nights of karaoke.

When worn, the end of the clasp gets pressed against the body, making an accidental release highly unlikely, if not impossible. To change straps, a quick lift of the lever frees the grip.

This is like the Fort Knox of belt buckles!

The Combos

For readers considering the “combo box,” straps made from different materials and buckles of different looks will obviously offer the most variety. However, another way to go is the same style buckle in different colors. Whichever way you go, these Anson belts will likely be the last belts readers will ever need to buy!!!

Eeny, meeny, miny, moe…oh cr@p I can’t decide.

  1. Great idea for traveler. This is a great way to get multiple looks without overpacking; one strap with two buckles that can be changed up to match different outfits.
