Gear & Gadgets...

We were looking for a charging dock for our iPod nano when we came upon this combo unit offered by EDGE.  The unit is quite small (4"x2.5") so it was easy to fit on our crowded desk.

The new iPod nano will fit in the dock, but the rear support does not slide forward enough to support the back.  We'll be adding a little piece to rectify this problem as part of the FirstUse report.

There is a full complement of output connectors on this dock.  The LineOut and S-Video Out connectors will enable the dock to be connected up to a TV for use with the Photo iPods.  You will need the cables that came with the iPod as they were not included with the EDGE unit.

The card reader supports the faster (480 Mbit/sec) USB 2.0 interface.  The card reader will accept most of the popular flash memory formats currently on the market, with the exception of Sony's MemoryStick.

We had no problems hooking the unit up to our Mac.  With our iPod nano encased in its new Speck ToughSkin, the fit was perfect!  Not only did we save some space on our desk, we also freed up one of the USB ports!  That alone make this unit worth buying!

We have iPod docks, card readers, graphic tablets, speakers, PowerMate knobs, etc...all vying for connection to the available USB ports.

A company called EDGE has released an iPod dock/card reader combo that will help save some space on our desks.
