Apple's Worldwide Developer's Conference is happening this week in San Francisco. One of the much anticipated announcement at WWDC was whether there will be an upgrade to the iPhone. The crowd was not disappointed the crowd. Apple updated both the iPhone and the OS. The platform is now both faster and more feature-rich.
iPhone users can now record video as well as still images, edit right on the device, and send the clips to all of the expected places (contacts, youTube, etc...). The iPhone can also accept hands-free voice commands ("call Steve", "play song", etc...). Go check out all the new features here.
The iPhone platform is a success not just because it is the best "smartphone" on the market, it is a success because of Apple's AppStore. The AppStore now has over 50,000 different applications for the iPhone. They have sold over 1 billion apps in 9 months! Apple created a wall using a bunch of Cinema Displays to give a visual sense of the many different apps available. The cool thing about the display is a particular app's icon would "blink" whenever one is sold.
We used to make the trip out to CA for the gathering each year. We stopped going when the Newton was discontinued because the "fun" just wasn't in it anymore. However, now that the iPhone/iPod Touch has firmly established itself as a second hardware platform, we think we are going to be there next year. [Permalink] - iPhone 3GS
