Welcome! You got here because you were curious about the little asterisk in the corner. The asterisk was a convenient way for us to jump to an experimental section of the magazine. This section is where we play with different ideas which have been bouncing around in our collective heads. One idea is to document the journey of creating a "startup" from scratch.
The "document a startup" idea got traction and we started to put the pieces into play around the middle of last year. Our first decision was what kind of startup? The iPhone app market is growing exponentially, Apple has taken care of the distribution side of the equation, and it will be fun to learn how to program for the iPhone.
We will create a software company around developing iPhone apps.
Today is the start is the new year. We thought it would be an appropriate time to kick things off.
Our rough schedule is to spend a few months learning the iPhone SDK, spend a few months designing our iPhone app, and spend a few more implementing it. Granted, not the most rigorous of timelines, but this is an experiment. We'll adjust as required. We have an idea of what we would like to build, so we don't need to learn EVERYTHING available in the SDK. However, we do expect that we'll have to revisit our design as we learn more about how things work in the iPhone world.
The expectation is that it will be a staggering amount of work before we can get anything worthwhile to market, but we hope that by documenting our efforts, others can learn from our mistakes and perhaps avoid them in their quest for fun and fortune. Happy New Year!!!! [Permalink] -Intro
