The Smart Candle set came with four rechargeable flickering candles, one charging base, an AC power adapter, and four frosted glass holders.
The candles came charged and ready to go, but according to the instructions, we have to give them a full charge and discharge cycle before we use them for the first time. A typical full charge (8 hours) should give about 15 hours of use according to the Smart Candle website.
The candle set came with a charging base which will accommodate all for units at once. The candles can only be aligned on the base in one way.
The candles will come on once removed from the holder. Each Smart Candle does come with a little plug which, when inserted, will turn off the candle. It would have been better if the plug was some how integrated into the base of the candle as we are pretty certain these plugs will go missing in short order.
The flicker of the Smart Candle is a very convincing simulation of a real flame, especially when placed in a frosted or semi-transparent container.
We realize it is difficult to judge the quality of the "flame" from a still photo, so here are a few clips of the Smart Candle in action :-)
These candles are obviously a desirable alternative if you have small children or excitable pets around the house. They are also a great solution to lighting projects where a real flame would not be practical, like outdoors when there's a breeze blowing.
We have some RainyDayProjects in mind for these Smart Candles... so stay tuned. We hope to create a stained glass fireplace screen with holders for these Smart Candles in one of our upcoming projects. |
