The temperature outside has been fluctuating between 40\u00ba and 60\u00ba+. April showers have been signaling to the plants that it is time to get busy. The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rainydaymagazine.com\/RDM2013\/RainyDayGarden\/BirdHouseBath\/DaffodilsBig.jpg\">daffodils<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rainydaymagazine.com\/RDM2013\/RainyDayGarden\/BirdHouseBath\/TulipsAndDayliliesBig.jpg\">tulips<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rainydaymagazine.com\/RDM2013\/RainyDayGarden\/BirdHouseBath\/TulipsAndDayliliesBig.jpg\">day lilies<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rainydaymagazine.com\/RDM2013\/RainyDayGarden\/BirdHouseBath\/SnowDropsBig.jpg\">others<\/a>\u00a0have started to poke through the wet ground.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rainydaymagazine.com\/RDM2013\/RainyDayGarden\/BirdHouseBath\/CrocusesBig.jpg\">Crocuses<\/a>\u00a0have been popping up, some in the oddest places, all over the RainyDayGarden. The forecast for this weekend is warm and sunny, so it will be the perfect time to clean up the garden and put up some of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rainydaymagazine.com\/RDM2013\/RainyDayGarden\/BirdHouseBath\/AllBig.jpg\">new items we found<\/a>\u00a0at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gardeners.com\/\">Gardener&#8217;s Supply Company<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rainydaymagazine.com\/RDM2013\/RainyDayGarden\/BirdHouseBath\/AllBig.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rainydaymagazine.com\/RDM2013\/RainyDayGarden\/BirdHouseBath\/All.jpg?resize=620%2C412\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"412\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rainydaymagazine.com\/RDM2013\/RainyDayGarden\/BirdHouseBath\/AllBig.jpg\">items<\/a>\u00a0that caught our eye were the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gardeners.com\/Cottage-Birdhouses-Set-of-3\/8586376,default,pd.html?start=1&amp;cgid=20731\">birdhouses with the metal roof<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gardeners.com\/bronzed-leaf-birdbath\/37-981,default,pd.html?start=2&amp;cgid=20730\">metal birdbath<\/a>\u00a0with the three-legged stand. Both items are exclusive to Gardener&#8217;s Supply Company and are available now.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rainydaymagazine.com\/RDM2013\/RainyDayGarden\/BirdHouseBath\/Birdbath_Details.jpg?resize=620%2C412\" alt=\"\" usemap=\"#Map29\" width=\"620\" height=\"412\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The bronze-colored birdbath was shipped flat, but was very simple to put together. The pieces are made of powder-coated steel to withstand the elements. We love the whimsey and details of the various elements of this birdbath. The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rainydaymagazine.com\/RDM2013\/RainyDayGarden\/BirdHouseBath\/Birdbath_FeetBig.jpg\">tripod base<\/a>\u00a0is very stable and should be stand well either in soil or on a deck. The elegant metal\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rainydaymagazine.com\/RDM2013\/RainyDayGarden\/BirdHouseBath\/Birdbath_LeafBig.jpg\">leaf&#8217;s lip is curled up<\/a>to create\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rainydaymagazine.com\/RDM2013\/RainyDayGarden\/BirdHouseBath\/Birdbath_TrayBig.jpg\">a shallow bowl<\/a>\u00a0and will hold up to two cups of rainwater.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rainydaymagazine.com\/RDM2013\/RainyDayGarden\/BirdHouseBath\/BirdbathBig.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rainydaymagazine.com\/RDM2013\/RainyDayGarden\/BirdHouseBath\/Birdbath.jpg?resize=620%2C412\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"412\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We have\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rainydaymagazine.com\/RDM2011\/Home\/January\/Week1\/RDMHomeJan0311.htm\">a few birdhouses<\/a>\u00a0at the office. Most of them CAN be hung outside, but none of the are. The larger of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rainydaymagazine.com\/RDM2013\/RainyDayGarden\/BirdHouseBath\/BirdhousesOnShelfBig.jpg\">wooden ones<\/a>\u00a0we decorated did not have a easy way for us to clean things out at the end of the season. We could cut a hole at the bottom, but that is a project for another day. The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rainydaymagazine.com\/RDM2013\/RainyDayGarden\/BirdHouseBath\/BirdhousesOnFloorBig.jpg\">porcelain ones<\/a>\u00a0made by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rainydaymagazine.com\/RDM2008\/Home\/January\/RDMHomeJan08W2.htm#RainyDayCrafts\">Ray Dunn<\/a>\u00a0does have have an opening at the bottom. However, we didn&#8217;t want to risk breaking them by hanging them outside.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rainydaymagazine.com\/RDM2013\/RainyDayGarden\/BirdHouseBath\/BirdhousesOnShelfFloor.jpg?resize=620%2C206\" alt=\"\" usemap=\"#Map30\" width=\"620\" height=\"206\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When we saw the cheerful cottage birdhouses from Gardener&#8217;s we knew they would be perfect for the RainyDayGarden. These brightly colored birdhouses have\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rainydaymagazine.com\/RDM2013\/RainyDayGarden\/BirdHouseBath\/Birdhouse_HookBig.jpg\">galvanized metal roofs<\/a>,\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rainydaymagazine.com\/RDM2013\/RainyDayGarden\/BirdHouseBath\/Birdhouse_RoofBig.jpg\">1-1\/4&#8243; entrance holes<\/a>, and are made from pine with a double-layer protective coating.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rainydaymagazine.com\/RDM2013\/RainyDayGarden\/BirdHouseBath\/BirdhousesBig.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rainydaymagazine.com\/RDM2013\/RainyDayGarden\/BirdHouseBath\/Birdhouses.jpg?resize=620%2C412\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"412\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rainydaymagazine.com\/RDM2013\/RainyDayGarden\/BirdHouseBath\/Birdhouse_PortalBig.jpg\">metal rings<\/a>\u00a0around the entrances deter gnawing predators. Clean out\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rainydaymagazine.com\/RDM2013\/RainyDayGarden\/BirdHouseBath\/Birdhouse_RearBig.jpg\">doors on the back<\/a>\u00a0make end-of-season housekeeping quick and simple. The size is perfect for nuthatches, titmice, wrens and chickadees. While these birdhouses and the birdbath are wonderful accents for the garden, they also make whimsical decorations for inside the home. We realized that when we left\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rainydaymagazine.com\/RDM2013\/RainyDayGarden\/BirdHouseBath\/Birdbath_KeystandBig.jpg\">the stand near the door<\/a>\u00a0and a minute later found\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rainydaymagazine.com\/RDM2013\/RainyDayGarden\/BirdHouseBath\/KeysBig.jpg\">keys and other items<\/a>\u00a0left on it.
