DuraFlame Infrared Heater : FirstLook/FirstUse

A whole lotta warmth in a compact little package

New England is starting off 2018 with an extended spell of cold weather. Cold even for New England, home of The Montreal Express.

Fortunately for everyone here, the RainyDayInterns took steps to ensure that the workplace remains warm and comfortable during this bout of single-digit temperatures.

DuraFlame is a household name with its compressed logs that give off a multi-colored light show when burned.

The California Cedar Products Company, a manufacturer of wood slats for pencils, was looking for ways to recycle the sawdust from its wood manufacturing operations. They realized that by blending the sawdust with petroleum wax, they could create a mixture that could be extruded to make a new type of fireplace log….and DuraFlame was born.

DuraFlame was spun off as its own company, and has continued to innovate and have expanded their product line to include grilling products and electric space heaters.

DuraFlame IR Heater

Instead of cranking up the central heating and heating every room in the house that you’re not in, adding an electric space heater is a good way to add warmth to the room you’re actually in. This is an especially cost-efficient strategy when the outside temperature is well below zero with the wind chill (seriously, that’s what it is right now).

There are different types of electric space heaters (ceramic, quartz, oil-filled), and they all have their pluses and minuses. The one the interns decided on was the DuraFlame Infrared electric stove with heater (DFS-550-0).

This Duraflame model comes with the following:

The interns chose this unit because:

  • it is light-weight (25 lbs), making it easy to move from room to room.
  • The infrared heating unit is at the bottom, keeping the main body of unit cool no matter how long you’ve been using it; there’s no need to wait for it to cool down before moving it.
  • It provides an attractive focal point wherever you put it.
  • It can be operated with a remote control or the controls on the face.
  • The “flames” are realistic enough to make you feel that stove is real.

Those looking for a small, well-constructed stove-like heater would be pleased with the Duraflame DFS-550-0 Infrared Quartz Electric Stove.

It dimensions are roughly 20″W x 23″H x 12″D, and will handle rooms up to 1,000 sq ft.

The interns love that the the artificial glowing logs may be turned on separately from the heater if they want watch a little DuraFlame_TV.
