RainyDayGiftGuide 2016: Watches

Have fun shopping and Happy Holidays!!!

While the weather had been unseasonably warm in New England, the frigid temperature and the Holiday Seasons are both upon us again. As with years past, we have gather together an awesome collection of gift ideas for our RainyDayMagazine readers. Some of our suggestions are items we have reviewed during the year, others are new but looked too interesting not to pass along, and a few are so good that we continue to recommend them year after year. Of course, the selection criteria for all categories is the same every year: they are either things we have actually used or they are things we would actually want.

The Caliper View might be our best watch/gadget find of the year. A few readers pinged us about it. We took a look and was immediately taken by its build-quality, clean looks, and elegant simplicity.

  • Self-winding mechanicals
  • Sapphire crystals front and back
  • Water-resistant to 10ATM

Caliper Timepieces successfully launched their first watch, the VIEW on Kickstarter in March 2016. The campaign was a huge success raising over 250% of the initial goal. Production is now complete.  We suggest you get your order in today as this is one that is going to be back-ordered at some point soon.

Black stainless steel case and link bracelet. Push button deployment clasp. Black analog dial with white luminous hands and hour markers. Multi-Band Atomic timekeeping receiving radio signals from towers in the US UK Germany Japan and China. Auto receive up to 6 times per day (5 for the Chinese calibration signal). timex

This Timex IQ has stainless steel casing and feature fly-back chronograph functions, Indiglo night-light, fourth-hand indicator, two subdials, and date window.

Timex Men’s T49211 Expedition E-Compass is a great watch. Titanium casing, integrated compass, and an internal rotating bezel. Very sharp! We got ours when we visited the Timex Watch Museum in Conn, but you can get yours direct from Amazon.

YES Watch : Zulu

yes_zulu

To honor the forefathers of time, the YES ZULU embraces all their revelations and is possibly the most comprehensive interpretation of time that money can buy. It relates both natural and modern time back to that ancient celestial 24 hour cycle. At a glance, you see times for sunrise and sunset, solar high noon, moonrise and moonset, moon phase, military time and, of course, hours, minutes and seconds in AM/PM or 2400 time mode, for wherever you are in the world. This one is perfect for world travelers, astronomers, or both!

…and One More Thing.

Smartwatches came onto the watch scene with huge expectations, but it is pretty clear that all of the players in the new watch category are having a tough go of it lately. For what it is worth, Apple is still the leader and will likely be the sole survivor when the dust settles. So if you want to give one, give the one that will likely survive the coming fallout 🙂 And to make sure it does survive the real world, wrap it in a LunaTik armor casing!!!
