While wandering around IKEA in Stoughton MA the RainyDayRenovation crew came upon the Hjuvik faucet. Its industrial look caught their eye, they liked the feel of its stainless steel construction, and were sold by its water-saving feature. After a bit of back and forth, it was agreed that while the Moen in the RainyDayKitchen was still functional, the sink could do with a faucet upgrade.
IKEA’s Hjuvik faucet has the following features:
- Stainless steel and brass construction
- Detachable hand sprayer
- Durable ceramic faucet insert for long life
- Check valve to prevent back flow
- 10-year IKEA warranty
Here is what’s in the box:
- Fully assembled and ready-to-install faucet
- Mounting accessories (support bracket, O-ring/gasket, etc)
- Under-sink installation tool
This IKEA faucet has a high clearance and will be useful for filling large pots and such. The flow control is at the base: pulling the handle forward turns the faucet on and rotating it controls the mix. The hot and cold water connectors are flexible braided stainless steel hoses.
The hanging faucet head is suspended and protected by a large stainless coil. A squeeze level allows a quick switch from stream to spray…very handy.
The faucet may be installed onto a variety of sinks and counter tops. As expected, the under-sink bracket and supports are provided for the faucet. One surprise in the package was the inclusion of the installation tool for tightening the nut. Based on our experience with our sink installation, we had considered picking one up from Home Depot for the faucet project. Now we don’t have to. Nice!
The Moen faucet has worked tirelessly since we installed the sink five years ago. However, none of us would complain if it was swapped out for the great looking IKEA Hjuvik unit. Don’t worry, we’ll find a new home for the Moen on Craigslist 🙂
The IKEA faucet upgrade DIY project doesn’t look like it should be very difficult or take very long (famous last words.) We’ll post the removal and installation on Monday. Have a great weekend!
